Editorials :

Pakistan forces (military, FC, intelligence, and Para-military) have abducted 480, killed 26 including women and children and torched at least 500 properties in more than 100 offensives from 1st March to 31 March. Only 30 people have been released so far. None of the abducted persons have been presented any court or given the right to defend themselves.Balochistan’s Dasht, Tump, Mand, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Quetta, and Makran regions have been the most affected areas where Pakistani military carried out attacks and offensives against Baloch civilians. Reports on the ground suggested that Pakistan military has intensified its offensives in the start of population census because the Baloch nation has rejected the state census and started resisting against it.
The military, however, restored to brutal violence and human rights violations to implement the census. There are several confirmed reports of mass migrations as the result of intensive military offensives and air strikes. The mass migration of local Baloch populations in Dasht, Hoshab and many areas in Turbat and Gwadar is directly linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Project (CPEC) because the military is expelling people to appease China and pave way for CPEC.
The majority of the people have migrated from Peertog, Dasht, Balgetar, Kolwah, Mandbullo, Shapuk, Hoshap, Tejaban, Awaran and other places of Balochistan where more than 5000 people have reportedly migrated so far. The families of the IDPS are suffering from malnutrition’s and worried about their safety.
Pakistan forces also threw dead bodies of several previously abducted Baloch and claimed to have killed them in encounters in different areas of Balochistan. The dead bodies of Hasil (A School teacher), Nazeer s/o Ghulam Rasool, and Wahid s/o Abdul Karim and others. Many of the dead bodies found could not be identified due disfigurement as they extremely tortured beyond recognition. On the Other hand, Pakistani Army has been involved in attacking Citizen and torturing them in military attacks and offensives. According to our sources, more than 1000 people have been tortured and injured which includes women, children, and elderly.
IVBMP sources on the ground confirmed that only 30 people have been released in March. At least 14 people were abducted from Shapuk in which one teacher was killed and the rest were released and the other released people are distinct parts of Balochistan including as Dasht, Mand, and Awaran regions. There has been no report of the release of other abducted people until the compiling of this report. We could confirm the killing of 26 however, this number could be higher as there is a total military siege and media blackout in most of the parts of Balochistan.
We have also been informed that Pakistani forces have stolen more than 1500 Cattle and killed thousands in indiscriminate military attacks in Dasht, Turbat, Awaran regions only. There are also similar reports of pillage of Baloch villages in Kohlu, Kahan and Dera Bugti regions of Balochistan.

That there is no end in sight to the agony of those families who are in excruciating pain as they do not know when their loved ones will return either alive or dead allegedly from the custody of the mighty security institutions in the country. The disappearance of Abdul Wahid Baloch from Karachi is one of those tragic cases whose mystery has not been resolved even after the passage of more than two months since his abduction. The whereabouts of social worker and publisher Abdul Wahid Baloch, a resident of Chakiwara in Lyari, are still unknown after he went ‘missing’ on July 26, while his family alleges that he was picked up by law enforcement agencies. A telephone operator at the Civil Hospital in Karachi, Abdul Wahid is a book lover, and helps Baloch authors publish their works and activists their posters. He was the sole bread earner and his disappearance has meant misery on all counts for the family.

Baloch human rights activist Mama Qadeer 72, with 20 other Baloch women and children has made a history by breaking 84-year old record of Mahtama Gandi. Gandi had marched 390 kilometers on foot from Ahmedabad to Dandi against British Government in 1930, whereas Mama Qaeer Baloch traveled for more than 2000 kilometers on foot from Quetta to Islamabad through Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab for the harmless release of Baloch missing persons. Mama Qadeer’s this move will make new ways of struggle for young who are fighting for their rights.

This peaceful record has been made after 84-year. Because when Mahatma Gandhi started his Salt March on 12 March 1930 so he was 61- year old but Mama Qadeer Baloch took this responsibility in the age of 72- year.

Qadeer Baloch, known as Mama Qadeer is Vice Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Person (VBMP), a non-governmental organization striving for the safe release of Baloch missing persons. Mama Qadeer launched historic long march from Quetta to Karachi and then marched towards Islamabad to highlight the issue of enforced disappearance in Balochistan and ‘Kill and dump’ of Baloch political activists and people from different walks of life allegedly being carried out by secret state agencies.

The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) has started the second phase of its long march from Karachi to Islamabad from 13 December, for the recovery of Baloch missing person who have been allegedly disappeared by Military and intelligence agencies of the state. The second phase of this long march to federal capitol Islamabad will cover distance of approximately 1600 kilometers. Vice Chairman of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), Mama Qadeer Baloch is determined and said that he would continue his movement and long march till the recovery of last missing person of Balochistan.
It was hoped that first phase of long march would be result oriented and successful to pressurize responsible authorities for the safe recovery of Baloch missing persons, however, the participants not only received death threats but also no Human Rights Organization morally supported them. The main stream media did not cover the long march as well. While the long march was on its way to Karachi number of people were also disappeared in Balochistan and news of recovering bullet riddled dead bodies of Baloch people appeared in media.

"No Ordinary Long March": On the Long March for Baloch Rights

A protest long march of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) led by Mama Qadir Reki, vice chairman of VBMP, with as many as 20 families, including women and children, carrying placards, photographs of missing persons and banners inscribed with slogans in support of their demands started their journey from Quetta Press Club on Sunday 27th; it will culminate with a sit-in at Karachi Press Club. Many relatives even fear protesting in fear of further retribution. This isn’t a march to secure justice because the relatives of missing and dead had sought all avenues but were let down by all including the Supreme Court (SC) which has been long on rhetoric and miserably short on action. This 700 plus kilometer journey which the relatives of the missing and dead have undertaken is to highlight the injustices to Baloch people. The agencies, the army and Frontier Corps (FC) naturally couldn’t be expected to provide justice because even the most partial SC reluctantly admits that these are responsible for the missing and the mutilated dead. The civil society is expected to stand up for human rights violation but their enthusiasm regarding missing Baloch persons is quite uninspiring.

This march isn’t a march of Pajeros and Prados it is a march of the real children of Balochistan’s soil, the salt of the earth who have suffered loss of their dear ones because those brave souls had dared to demand their inalienable rights. The lead placard announcing this historical march is carried on a wheelbarrow. This march is about dedication and commitment of the relatives of missing and dead to their loved ones. This isn’t a random march because this journey has been going on for more than 1300 days and this march is simply another aspect of it. Imagine the pain of relatives who for the last four years have given up their normal lives to struggle for their loved ones recovery. The VBMP protest camp is always manned and the establishment has tried threats, promises and cajoling to make them give up but they have persisted with a fierce determination in spite of knowing that justice will not come from the perpetrators who are as the rulers here as well.

If you would know what prompts this protest in Balochistan you may understand this protest march better. I suppose a few examples will do; when body of Sangat Sana, a member of the central committee of the Baloch Republican Party (BRP) formerly chairman of Baloch Student Organization (BSO-Azad) who was whisked away from the Kolpur area in Bolan December 8, 2008 was found on February 13, 2012 from Murgab, Turbat, it apart from torture had 28 bullets wounds on his chest and head. Sana belonged to a rich and influential tribal family but opted to throw in his lot with those who sought better destiny for their nation. He could have lived long had he compromised the trust that his friends had reposed in him; unable to break and destroy his determination and dedication his vicious enemies set about meticulously to torture his body for four long years. Defeated in their purpose they showed their evil viciousness by firing 28 bullets into his head and torso.
